Unveiling a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of interesting creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a piece of poop trying to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a jump control. In numerous levels, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to purchase skins for your poop character.

Execute your actions carefully, since one wrong move forces restarting the level. Leap off floating orbs to hurl yourself upward, cross fragile platforms, and activate switches to unlock new areas. Gather currency and use them on tougher game content as the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the game shows off neon stages and an amazing background music. The retro graphics featuring shifting abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently included fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from protagonist waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable recognition, such as winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is available currently on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on computers in the fall.
