The UN Security Council approved to a US resolution to lift sanctions on President Ahmed al-Sharaa of Syria before his presidential meeting the following week.

Sharaa was under UN sanctions in his role as head of the religious organization Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which was formerly linked to the terrorist network. Washington eliminated HTS from a list of international terrorist organizations during July.

Further Restrictions Lifted

Throughout his presentation, he declared the nation was "regaining its deserved status among the nations of the world" and demonstrated unity with Palestinian citizens in Gaza.
