Attorney General Announces Probe into Trump Opponents and Epstein Connections
This past Friday, the Attorney General appointed Jay Clayton to head an probe into opponents of Donald Trump and their links with the late financier. This action came hours after Trump ordered her to launch the probe.
During an announcement, Bondi highlighted Jay Clayton as “a highly skilled and reliable legal expert”. The official added, “As with all matters, the department will pursue this with urgency and integrity to deliver answers to the American people.”
This action seems to diverge from a July memo from justice department officials which declared that the Epstein files did not warrant additional investigations. As per the document, investigators “lacked sufficient evidence to pursue cases against other parties.”
Trump Demands Scrutiny of Democrats in Epstein Matter
The announcement comes as increasing demands from the president on congressional Republicans to oppose the public disclosure of Epstein-related documents before an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Many Republicans are expected to back the release.
Newly public communications from Jeffrey Epstein have brought attention to Trump’s previous connections with the convicted criminal, revealing information that he was more aware of Epstein’s actions than earlier acknowledged.
That same day, Trump announced he would direct the Department of Justice to investigate Epstein’s ties with Democrats, specifically naming prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Paradoxically, Trump also described the “Epstein situation” as a “scam”.
